Caraorman Forest covers an area of 3000ha. Located in the center of the Caraorman ridge, on a sandy land of marine origin there is an oak forest (over 30m high), with imposing branches and rich vegetation, which, due to the presence of a species of vines and other climbing plants gives this forest a subtropical aspect. Among the trees in the Caraorman Forest we can enumerate: secular oaks 25m high, elms, willows, black and white poplars, alders, fluffy ashes, the latter being a botanical rarity.<\/p>

In this forest, white-tailed eagle nests were reported, through the protection of the forest was ensured at the same time the protection of this species, other bird species we could add crows. The forest is part of the same line as the Letea Forest. In 1940 it was declared a natural monument.<\/p>

In Caraorman Forest we find special places such as the \"Hunters' Fountain\" where we can see a 400-year-old oak with a trunk circumference of 4m, an oak that was called \"Kneeling Oak\" due to the branches that stretched to the ground. \"Kneeling Oak\" (400 years old) is an integral part of the wonderful landscape of Caraorman Forest and implicitly of the unique landscape of the Danube Delta.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On the route to Village Mile 23 you can visit canals and lakes in the Danube Delta where you will find a multitude of birds, creatures, plants and wonderful landscapes. The route starts on the old arm of the Danube, also called the Old Danube. Visit the Bogdaproste Canal which connects the Old Danube with Lake Bogdaproste, a canal very often visited by fishing enthusiasts and fishermen. Trei Iezere Lake, known on some older maps as Trei Ozere, is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Northern Delta. The name of the lake - Trei Iezere - comes precisely because of this true \"set of lakes\" in the North Delta, an ensemble formed by the lakes (from E to V) at noon, Cazanele and R\u0103d\u0103cinos Lake (Corciovata or Covaliova, as it is also known) . Lake Trei Iezere is a shallow lake on medium waters with a depth not exceeding 1.0 - 1.5 m. The shores of the lake are generally steep, not allowing camping. A visit to Lake Trei Iezere, especially in spring, can offer a special experience related to the solitude and tranquility of the Danube Delta.<\/p>\n

Mile 23 is a village in the northern part of Tulcea County, in the Danube Delta, 53 km from Tulcea, on the Old Danube arm, which detaches to the left from the arm leading to Sulina, about halfway between Tulcea and the Black Sea. It is only accessible by water. The name of Mile 23 comes from the marine mile that was assigned to the area, marking the distance on the old Sulina arm. The village of Mila 23, a typical fishing village, is the only Lipovan settlement that was created in the delta at the end of the last century and which, despite the numerous floods, managed to preserve its archaic charm, offering today an authentic image of the picturesque in the fishing villages and a way of life unchanged for centuries.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The road to Letea is a route with beautiful landscapes where you can admire the beauties of the Danube Delta. Letea, the picturesque village on the ridge of the same name in the Danube Delta, is inhabited by the descendants of the Zaporozhian Cossacks who took refuge here at the beginning of the 18th century. The fugitives, called haholi, meaning Ukrainians from Austria-Hungary, came to the island with all their customs. In the village of Letea you can admire old architecture that has been preserved over time.
Letea Forest is a protected area of national interest and is the oldest nature reserve in Romania. It starts in the north of the village of Letea and covers an area of 5246.8 ha [3], of which 2,825 ha fall into the category of strictly protected areas and has been in the attention of scientists since 1930, when it was placed under protection. Since 1938, an area of almost 500 ha has been declared a Nature Reserve, in the area known as ,,Hasmacul Mare\u2019\u2019.
The forest has developed in the form of wide strips (\u201chasmacs\u201d) in the spaces between the sand dunes and is made up of meadow oak, mist oak, white poplar, meadow ash, white lime. A characteristic of the forest is the abundance of climbing plants: wild vines, hops, woodpeckers and last but not least the Greek liana (Periploca graeca), which gives the forest a Mediterranean look. At the same time, more than 2,000 species of insects have been identified here, the sand viper (Vipera ursinii), the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) - which nests here, three species of falcon, crow, etc. Here are found 500 species of plants and over 3,000 species of animals, ie over 70% of the animal species from the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, Letea ridge being considered by specialists as one of the most interesting natural environments in Romania.
All these species of plants and animals, some of them very rare or with special characteristics have made this forest require special attention for the conservation and preservation of its natural values. The oldest nature reserve in Romania, Letea is the only place in Europe where lianas are found. \nTHE EXCURSION IS MADE ON THE ROUTE: Sulina Arm - Sulina - Visiting the City of Sulina - Return (the duration of the trip is about 3 hours) Usually this trip also includes sunbathing on the Black Sea. For this trip you leave relatively at 9.00 or 10.00 in the morning, tourists are left at the beach by the boat, then they can go to visit the town of Sulina (on foot or by taxi from the beach), they can serve lunch, after which we establish by phone the time and place where you want to be picked up by your boat from the city. Sulina was the most important port on the west coast of the Black Sea and since 1870 it was the first Porto Franco (free port) in Romania. There were 8 consular offices, many shipping companies, 2 modern hospitals, the administrative palace of the European Commission of the Danube Delta, theater, printing house, casino. Sailors, merchants and businessmen from all over the world gathered here to set the world in motion. World War I stopped and almost completely destroyed the city. The Old Lighthouse in Sulina was built in 1869, is 17 meters high and is today a museum that can be visited. Palace of the European Danube Commission. This is one of the most imposing buildings in the city (built between 1856 and 1858) and is a symbol of the economic and social growth of the city of Sulina. Church of St. Alexander and St. Nicholas. You can't miss it, this church is right on the seafront. It was built at the end of the 19th century, in the meantime it has deteriorated (you can see that it is now surrounded by scaffolding for renovation) but it looks very good on the Danube bank. The beach cemetery is the only marine cemetery in Eastern Europe. It used to be right on the beach but in the meantime alluvium has been deposited and now the sea has moved away a bit. There you can see tombs of pirates, princesses, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox - all find their rest in the cemetery in Sulina. Near the mouth of the Danube into the Black Sea you will see the new lighthouse, 48 meters high - located near the end of the southern dam of the mouth of the Sulina Canal. Nearby is the old lighthouse on the north dam, which was built in 1887.<\/p>

The extension works of the Sulina Canal mouth dams, started in 1922, stopped the use of this lighthouse. During World War II, the lighthouse became an observation point used by the German navy. Today, the old lighthouse is a tourist attraction. The beach in Sulina, unlike other beaches in Romania has fine sand (not like in Mamaia or Costinesti), and in terms of sea water we can say that every 30 meters there are sandbanks.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
